Made for you
A work can come into being for you in two ways. One begins with a place, the other with an encounter.
Made to measure
A work for your space
It begins with the place where the work will hang. I come and look: how wide the wall is, how the light falls, what is already there.
Then you give me a few words. For a large landscape above a sofa, they were: sun, water, joy, cheerful, twinkles, colourful.
With that size and those words I get to work, in my own visual language, for that one place.
- I come and lookThe wall, the size, the light, what is already there.
- You give me wordsA few words, a mood, the colours that belong to it.
- I make the workIn my own visual language, made for that one place.
Size, materials, timing and price are agreed together.
Personal works on commission
Each work in this series originates from an encounter: a conversation, a moment, an impression. Whatever comes, I let it come. I draw, create, write, and let it go. Nothing is refined or polished. What emerges is what it is.
That sets these works apart from my autonomous art. They are impressions: intuitive, unfiltered, and always accompanied by words that come just as naturally as the image. They reveal something of the encounter, the moment, the person or the circumstances.
What does it mean? Often I don’t know myself, and that is exactly the point. I don’t interpret; I am simply the hatch it passes through. The work isn’t mine (though there is often a message in it for me too), it is for you. Only you can translate it.
- An encounterA conversation, a moment, an impression.
- What comes, I let comeImage and words, unfiltered. Nothing is polished.
- You read itI don’t explain. Only you can translate it.
- It stays yoursThe work is not exhibited or shared.

An impression
Remembering
4 August 2023, 11:15
Translated from the Dutch original, Herinneren.
I hold on
against all expectations
against the current
I hold on
Read the whole impression
Before
at first I was others,
others who get lost
others who lose their way,
others who grow exhausted,
who grow confused,
disillusioned,
who let themselves be distracted and
in the end give up…
Now
but now ‘I am’
despite the heavy current I have faith and
with all the strength I have in me I hold on
and I remember… on my way to more of myself…
where I may merge…
until I am, one
and I remember… am overwhelmed by it!
I am! yes, I am!
one with… carried forward by… strengthened by…
nourished by… held by… touched by… and…
filled with… love
love to go, love to stay,
love to endure, to recognise, to remember,
to embrace, to give and to take, to forgive,
to be grateful and in the end to see…
that everything is exactly as it should be…
Then
so ‘I am’ at all times,
in my essence who I am,
will always be
…and why I hold on, with love…
In practice
- Size
- Usually postcard size, sometimes A4; by arrangement.
- Materials
- Pencil, mixed media, sometimes embroidery.
- Time and price
- By arrangement. The more time and detail, the more a work asks: a pencil drawing is simpler than a piece with embroidery, mixed media sits in between.
Intimate, personal, unique. For yourself, or as a special gift for someone.
